About Dr. Dean Cranney, MD
I am a board-certified Family Medicine physician and founder of Dr. Cranney Family Medicine in American Fork, Utah. I provide Direct Primary Care memberships, FAA Aviation Medical Examinations, and select cash-pay medical services for patients throughout Utah County and the Salt Lake Valley.
Prior to returning to Utah, I founded and operated Dr. Cranney Family Medicine in Spokane, Washington, where I cared for patients through a successful Direct Primary Care practice for nearly six years. This experience reinforced my belief that healthcare works best when physicians have the time and flexibility to build meaningful relationships with their patients.
My medical career has been shaped by both civilian and military service. As a former Flight Surgeon in the United States Air Force and Washington Air National Guard, I developed a deep appreciation for preventive medicine, operational readiness, and helping individuals maintain their health so they can pursue their goals with confidence.
Today, I continue to serve the aviation community as a Senior FAA Aviation Medical Examiner and FAA-designated HIMS Aviation Medical Examiner (HIMS AME). I provide First Class, Second Class, Third Class, BasicMed, and HIMS aviation medical services for student, private, commercial, and airline pilots throughout Utah.
My commitment to medicine began long before medical school. My grandfather, Dr. W.D. Cranney, practiced family medicine in Orem, Utah, and his example of service, compassion, and dedication to patients continues to influence the way I care for individuals and families today.
Outside of medicine, I have been married to my wife, Camille, since 1991. Together we have raised four wonderful children and are now enjoying the blessings of being grandparents.

For many years, I felt there had to be a better way to practice medicine. While modern healthcare has achieved remarkable advances, increasing administrative requirements and insurance-driven processes often create barriers between physicians and the people they serve.
More than 15 years ago, I began learning about an innovative approach to healthcare called Direct Primary Care. What attracted me most was its simplicity: a physician and patient working together in a direct relationship focused on communication, trust, and long-term health.

By intentionally limiting the size of my practice, I am able to spend more time listening, educating, and advocating for my patients while providing greater access to care when it is needed most.
